For the last year HoN Tour has promoted competitive play at all levels, and in all parts of the world. While each region has their own localized competitions, the worldwide season has been leading up to one thing - the crowning of a World Champion. The upcoming HoN Tour World Finals will showcase talents from the three main regions: four teams from Southeast Asia, three from North America and Europe, and the pride of the CIS region. Over $150,000 is on the line in the three day event, so lets meet the teams competing for the largest prize pool in Heroes of Newerth history.

Road to Thailand

As opposed to their big rivals Neolution eSports.MRR, Made in Thailand.Sorry Sorry was a hidden treasure of Thailand’s professional scene, revealed only when the world visited Bangkok at the beginning of 2024. Back then the team around Peter_yedss responded to the name Yamaha.Sorry Sorry and had just started to make a name for themselves in the Thai HoN Tour, That set up the road for a breakout performance. At GSL 13 the team flourished in the big lights, and for the first time turned the tables on the previous golden boys of the region around Chitawan`X.

The third place right behind Trademark eSports and stayGreen was the birth of something great for the team around, who did not only got punched by the most notable Thai organization with worldwide credibility in Made in Thailand, but also strung together impressive cycles in Thai HoN Tour and DreamHack qualifiers. As a result they cashed in two Thai HoN Tour cycle titles, won the entire Thai HoN Tour in front of a live audience and against their rivals of MRR, while also making the trip to Sweden twice.

All the glory and great accomplishments the team gathered, they also have some shadows on their resume - as pretty much every team not named stayGreen at this point. During the initial qualifier to SEA HoN Tour’s prestigious G-League division, the star-studded bunch around one of the best carry players in the region in BagstygAsry` (formerly known as Tianza) missed the direct qualification. Among the 16 teams to make that league right away, MiTH.s2y’s name was only among the fading KaiD and GSL participant Kimochi.Tt eSports and Thai HoN Tour Grand Finals surprise Nok 2 Hua, who didn’t make the cut. That was the mishappen on regional soil, on international turf the team never really got a good footing in thus far. Two DreamHack appearances only amounted to four victories in the Best of One mode, one victory in a Best of Three competition and a combined loss total of eight matches.

Those numbers are by no means blowing the roof off, just as a 5th/6th place and a 7th/8th place at DreamHack competitions are nothing to be overjoyed by. The split personality of the team in regional battles and international combat has been well documented, even though their first outing was so promising with a podium spot at Garena Star League 2024.

After that no major success stories in tournaments with international teams involved followed, but undeniable accomplishments back home. A D1 title might be even beneath the dignity of MiTH.s2y to mention her, especially since it wasn’t a walk in the park and through the playoff bracket either. Yet, they took the “royal road” from D1 straight to a G-League Championship in Cycle 2, getting them back in DreamHack Winter 2024 conversation and sending a message to all other competitors in the league - MiTH.s2y is back.

The resounding impact of said message held no real effect on the competition though, as Neolution eSports.MRR and Orange eSports continued to be the best teams in the regular season and the postseason. Following up the championship in Cycle 2 was a third place in the regular season of Cycle 3, leading to a quick first round elimination of the stars in the playoffs. Just on the heels of their triumph in the DHW qualifier was that fourth place in Cycle 3, spawning doubts and creating havoc inside the team. Insiders of the team reported frictions between Esc` and the rest of the members, which are also rumored to be the major factors in a fourth place finish in Cycle 4 and the lackluster outing at DreamHack Winter 2024.

Time cured all friction and wounds, so the forced political delay of the SEA HoN Tour Grand Finals might have been a blessing in disguise for the proud team. After that period they came out ready to swing back at criticisms, back with Esc` in the middle of the roster, manning his suicide position and being an impact player on their way back to a HoN Tour title. Next to stayGreen they are the only team that can legitimately call themselves back-to-back HoN Tour champions, now they have their eyes set on the World Title.

In Thailand?

The cliches and good traits of Thailand were already mentioned in the article about Neolution eSports.MRR and not much has changed in that regard. Made in Thailand.Sorry Sorry possesses some strong individual players with MrSunz and BagstygAsry` leading the charge in that regard. Both are skillful, mechanically great and know how to win their lanes on their own. Bags on the other hand is also one of the best carry players the region has to offer, once upon a time being feared for his masterful play on Sand Wraith. That hero has faded away in the meantime, so he is now a force to be reckoned with on the SEA carry Bushwack, Wretched Hag or Corrupted Disciple.

So everything like Neo.MRR? I beg to differ. One major difference is the complete commitment of one player to the jungle, which MRR really only have on paper. Technically captain ColorX is the designated jungler, but he rotates out of it if the team picks Ophelia, since BomRashapol is taking care of that for the team. In MiTH.s2y there is no switching of roles, heroes or assignments. Peter_yedss is taking care of the jungle, DYIS is the designated support player and the rest is having their work cut out for them on the respective lanes. This specialization might be the thing that puts them over MRR on a consistent basis, while the team play of MiTH also seems slightly superior to the one from their Thai rivals.

The main negative point of Peter_yedss and the individual members of the team is their composure and patience. What was quite apparent during the two DreamHack stints were the two faces of the team. Usually they are hanging with every single team in the early game, only to overcommit to a fight, a gank or a tower push heading into the mid-game that is ultimately digging them a hole they can’t get out of - at least not against teams from North America and Europe. If they can keep their calm and cool, they might be in to make a run and shock the world. Quite appropriate for the World Finals.
