Week 3 of the Carnage in Caldavar event is over now and has left us with plenty to talk and think about, and not just in the Pro Division. The Amateur Open saw intense games and old teams re-appearing while the Midwars action of the casual Cups proved to be as action-packed as ever.

Amateur Open #3

This week we had many teams fighting hard to get as far as possible. Some of them were relatively new, while others had experienced players in them and some came back from inactivity, going back as far as HoN Tour Season 1. [GS5B]GermanSquad5 Bravo is one such inactive, old team, I remember seeing them playing in the Bronze Division in Season 1 and early Season 2, after which they had a long break. Now they are back and while they did not get very far, shot down in round 2 by [TC]Team Cheesecake , it is good to see players returning to try their luck in the current events. Speaking of the Cheesecakes, they had a much better time this week, making it to round 4 before encountering the current favourite to make it into Pro Division, [tree]willowkeeper. Team Cheesecake put up a nice fight and used early pressure to gain an advantage, but willowkeeper have grown too strong in recent months to be impressed by that, resulting in a turn of the tide not too long into the game, and the win at the end of the day. In the semi-finals, willowkeeper had to play [NKB]North Korea Best, who had a good run themselves, taking out [Ogr]Shrek is Love in the previous round. willowkeeper, who yet had to lose a single game, continued to make no mistakes, ending with a 2-0 and another trip into the Finals.

On the other side of the bracket, the [PubV]Public Virgins had their grand day. Getting into the finals in the Weekly Cups wasn't enough for them anymore, and so they proved to be an able competitive team too, taking out teams like [OGs]Original Gangstas and [Fu]The Pirates, who themselves have strong teams and the desire to go far. In fact, The Pirates are still in the Top 8 and will most likely join the Invitational if they can score well next week. However, this week the Virgins triumphed and moved on to the finals to face the power team of the Cycle, willowkeeper. For the first time in the Amateur Open, willowkeeper had to go all three games to win the match, 2-1 was the end result. Maybe Public Virgins had them figured out for a moment, maybe it was the fatigue of the willowkeeper players who had exam that week, maybe it's for other reasons, but now teams known that the trees can lose a game - an encouraging thought to the challenger teams.

In any case, the top level of the Amateur Open has just become exciting again and several things will be decided next week. Can willowkeeper can win all 4 Amateur Opens in a row? Will Team Cheesecake and Public Virgins make it into the Top 8? Who will have the chance to challenge the Pro’s in Relegation Matches? Time to seed the teams for the first Carnage in Caldavar Amateur Invitational.

NA and Varierty Cup #7

While the Public Virgins were dabbling in competitive games, [BUX]Big Bux Money Crew increased their dominance in the Weekly Cups by winning both again. In the NA Cup they showed the [PubV]Public Virgins how to have a good time in the finals, making it a quick 2-0 victory. In the Variety Cup it was a bit more work due to the increased number of teams, but the end result was the same, 2-0 against [WG]WarcraftGamerz in the finals. The Buxies did face a bit of a challenge along the way; [2v2]Grimms United put up a good fight and took a game from them in Round 4 of the Variety Cup, but all-in-all, their dominance continues and they will probably have a record winning streak that no team will be able to beat anytime soon.

Congrats to all winners last week and Good Luck and Have Fun to all the teams out there this week!
