It has now been more than a month since HoN Tour Season 2 ended and we have entered the off-season phase, a period of time that does not usually offer much action, be it in traditional sports or games. With Season 3 still a few months away, many people were getting worried that the waiting period would be dull and boring. Several weekly Cups were added to coincide with King of the Hill, but as many players stated, this was simply not good enough. Some wanted professional tournaments, others thought it would be pointless to have competitive tournaments during the summer. Some desired cash prizes instead of gold for online tournaments, spread out so more than just a few teams could win money, while yet others favoured one big tournament with one big pot to win for a few teams - the forum was full of suggestions and worries, while every player had at least one opinion about the future of HoN.

And so the answer came in form of Carnage in Caldavar. It was decided that rather than investing into one big offline tournament, more teams should have the chance to bring home both money and glory. The event takes the path of more content, and community interaction, with action every week up until Season 3. And why not? This way, we will all have something out of an event. Almost daily entertainment for the viewers and plenty of happy winners. This will also be more than just scrims for 12 weeks for our pros and the chance for amateur teams to see how far they can get.

The event itself is easily explained. There will be two divisions; one will be for the six pro teams, qualified via this weekend Carnage Qualifier, while the amateur division is open to any non-pro team that wants to play. The Pro League has teams playing against each other four times per week - Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The four week season culminates in the Pro Playoffs, where the top four teams will compete for $8000 of prize money. All the while, the Amateur Division will have 4 Opens where everyone can compete. After 4 weeks the best teams in the Amateur Division will meet in the Invitational, where they fight for $500 and two spots in the Relegation Matches.

These Relegation Matches will happen after the Playoffs and the Invitational, and set the top two Amateur teams against the Pro teams that did not make it into the Playoffs. The victor of each best-of-five Relegation Match will advance to the Pro Division for the following cycle, while the others have to go back to Amateur Division. This allows Amateur teams to win some money and a chance to join the Pros if they are good enough. The second cycle will be just like the first, with the exception that at the end of the second cycle, the teams from Pro League will get a direct seed for HoN Tour Season 3, so playing well here will go a long way to securing a good start into the next Season.

All of these events will be covered by our HoN Community Casters, by Beef at coLcast, and of course Honcast, so there will be no boredom at all for fans of competitive HoN. We will see old teams fall, new teams rise and favourites shine. After the recent balance patch and the mixing of players that is currently going on in the pro scene, the possibilities are endless! So get your team together and sign up for the Carnage Qualifiers going on this weekend. Spring is here and it's going to be glorious. See you in Caldavar!
