Two weeks are now behind us in Carnage in Caldavar. The Pro Division is going strong and has delivered great matchups on an almost daily basis, while the Amateur Opens make sure that hopeful and skilled challengers will be ready once the first cycle of matches are through in a couple of weeks. To that end, it is very important for these hopeful teams to get as many points as possible every week, as only eight teams will make it into the Amateur Invitational, and merely participating in one Open will not be nearly enough.

Amateur Open #2

This weeks Amateur Open saw the return of the current leader in all their glory. The current top dogs of the Amateur scene, [tree]willowkeeper, went strong throughout the entirety of the weekend’s tournament. After meeting almost no resistance in the earlier parts of the tournament, they finally faced somewhat of a challenge when they encountered [iRex]Instant Reflex in the semi-finals. iRex proved to be capable of going through the bracket just as easily as willowkeeper, thanks to their solid lineup made up from various Gold Division veterans from last season. It was enough for them to reach the semi-finals, but for now it was also the extent of their abilities, as willowkeeper finished them 2-0, not leaving much doubt as to who is the favourite to move on to the Relegation Matches in the future.

On the other side of the bracket it was [dawn]dawn who impressed quite a bit. They defeated [TC]Team Cheesecake and [YLTP]You Love To Party in Round 3 and 4, both of which are highly capable teams that have made a name for themselves before. However, their streak ended in the semi-finals, where [FREZ]Sjukt Tradigt were waiting for them. After a hard fight it was 2-1 in favour of Sjukt Tradigt in the end, moving them on to the Finals.

In the last match of the tournament willowkeeper and Sjukt Tradigt battled it out, and even though Sjukt Tradigt fought hard, they were no match for the routined keepers, making this a clean 2-0 victory. With this the willowkeepers take another Amateur Open and max out their points, putting them in the lead by a comfortable margin. But don't count out the other teams that played well last weekend, Sjukt Tradigt, Instant Reflex, and dawn are lining up behind them, and together with several other teams they make up a hard fought and close top 8. If one of them happens to have a bad weekend, there are plenty of other teams able and ready to take their place. The next two weeks will show us who is strong enough to make it to the Invitational and who still needs to practice before the new HoN Tour Season starts.

NA and Variety Cups

Of course there were the NA and Variety Cup as well last week. The events continue to introduce more casual teams to a competitive atmosphere, some gold coins, and of course, an awesome time in Midwars once again. And it was once more a triumphant weekend for [BUX]Big Bux Money Crew, as they took both Cups, just like they did two weeks ago. In the NA Cup the obstacles were minimum, as only [vMSv]Magikarp Splash and [PubV]Public Virgins challenged them. The Buxies had no trouble in both cases and ended the matches 2-0 each, claiming the NA Cup with ease.

The Variety Cup was a bit bigger in size and had the Buxies go against dawn, who would later make a breakout performance in the Amateur Open just a couple days later. BUX proved once more that they had things firmly under control in the casual part of Heroes of Newerth and defeated dawn 2-0. That match wa followed by the Finals against [wtmw]welcome to my world, which also ended 2-0. With this, Big Bux Money Crew have taken both Cups again and are now the stayGreen of the Midwars world. Well done, Buxies!
