Patch

Tonight we will hotfix in a patch which will greatly impact those participating in HoNTour by disabling all mods in hontour games. This post will explain how the detection process works and how one can remove active modifications.


Detection

From this point on when a modification is detected on your client an exclamation mark will be visible at the top of your screen. When a player joins a HoNTour lobby and this exclamation mark is visible on your client, he or she will get a warning message telling them that they have mods active and that they will be disconnected from the game once everyone readies up and it starts. Don't worry you can still reconnect to your game after the mod(s) have been removed.


Deleting mods

If you have mods active and click on the exclamation point next to your friends list you will get a message inside your client telling you which mod(s) you have active and need to remove in order to participate in hontour games.

In order to remove these mods, go to your install folder:

LINUX: ~/.Heroes\ of\ Newerth/game/
WINXP: C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\My Documents\Heroes of Newerth\game\
WIN7: C:\Users\[user]\Documents\Heroes of Newerth\game\
MAC: /Users/[user]/Library/Application Support/Heroes of Newerth/game/

And make sure to remove the files you saw earlier in your message.

Once you have removed everything, click on the exclamation mark icon again to double check if there's any modified files left. Repeat the process if necessary!

Known issues

Getting an alert, but no files are shown

If you get the exclamation mark icon, but when you click it the message doesn't give you any file paths, try this: open your console (CTRL+F8 for Windows) and write the following command: SetSave fs_trackCustomFiles true
After which close the console (CTRL+F8 again) and click the [x] from top right corner to close your HoN client. Open HoN again and the message should now show the file paths. If this didn't work, contact an admin.


Replays

Watching a replay will trigger the exclamation mark to show up, even if you don't have mods. Restart your client via the [x] button and it should be gone.


Cannot find the mods

Make sure you can see hidden files & folders (enable this from Folder Options). For windows, there are two places to look for mods - the install folder where you can find the hon.exe file (in Program Files, or your custom install location) and the Documents & Settings folder where you can find the replays.
